EVERTON PLAY CHELSEA AT STANFORD BRIDGE IN FIRST EVER LIVING WAGE PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH
In a perfect tribute to mark the end of this year's Living Wage Week, fans can witness the first ever Premier League match played by two teams who both pay all of their workers a real Living Wage.
The match will be at Stanford Bridge on Saturday 5th where Everton play Chelsea. Both Clubs being Living Wage employers means that all their staff including match-day staff and caterers, earn enough to meet their basic everyday needs.
Everton are the most recent Premier League to sign up to pay the real Living Wage following Chelsea who were the first to accredit in 2014. The new Living Wage rates were announced earlier this week and are £9.75 an hour in London and £8.45 in the rest of the UK.
Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation said:
"To watch the first ever Premier League Living Wage football match is the perfect way to mark the end of this year's Living Wage Week, where we celebrate almost 3000 employers who have committed to pay all their staff enough to cover the cost of living. This is the first time two premier league clubs paying the real Living Wage will meet on the pitch. I hope that this will inspire other football clubs to follow suit so we can have Living Wage matches every week."
Note to Editors
Chelsea Football Club were the first Premier Club to become an accredited Living Wage club in December 2014. Everton are the second Premier Club to become accredited and were announced as a Living Wage employer on Monday 31st October 2016.
