Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation said:
"Today's JRF report demonstrates the need for a real Living Wage to help lift people out of poverty. We shouldn't have a situation where 55% of people living in poverty are working but cannot earn enough to make ends meet and where 2.6million children are being raised in poverty despite living in working households. That so many people on low pay work hard, sacrificing time with their families but are still not able to earn enough to make ends meet is still a reality for too many people in the UK. I hope more employers will join the ranks of 3000 others who have signed up to pay their employees a real Living Wage that meets the cost of living.
"Organisations that pay the real Living Wage know that doing the right thing by their workers pays off in more ways than one. Many see signs of increased productivity and better rates or retention and recruitment. It's the right thing to do for workers and for business."
