Spread the Living Wage to Tackle Global Poverty

Living Wage essential to meet global challenges and deliver UN's Sustainable Development Goals

A coalition of businesses, trade unions, civil society organisations and international charities has today published a major new report outlining how a global Living Wage could help to tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges.

The report shows how a global expansion of the Living Wage could help to deliver a range of UN Sustainable Development Goals including those to end poverty and hunger, improve health and wellbeing, expand quality education, deliver gender equality, provide clean water and sanitation, ensure good work and reduce inequalities.

Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, said:

"The campaign for a real Living Wage in the UK has put nearly £1bn extra into workers' pockets. Thousands of struggling families have been lifted out of poverty and provided with security and stability. We now need to see the Living Wage take root in more countries and provide millions more people with a fair day's pay for a hard day's work."

Contributions to the report which you can read below include from HSBC, Burberry, Ikea, Aviva, Citizens UK, Oxfam, Global Living Wage Coalition and the TUC.
