EMPLOYEE JOBS BELOW THE REAL LIVING WAGE 2022
This is the eleventh annual update to the 'employee jobs paid below the Living Wage' report, which uses data from the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) Annual Survey for Hours and Earnings (ASHE) to reveal the number of jobs below the real Living Wage.
Our analysis finds that:12.2 per cent of employee jobs in the UK (3.5 million jobs) were paid below the Living Wage in April 2022, compared with 17.1 per cent (4.8 million employee jobs) in April 2021. This is the lowest it has been since April 2012, when the figures were first recorded. However, with wages lagging behind inflation and the cost-of-living crisis expected to continue, our forecast indicates that both figures will climb next year. The forecast projects that 18.5 per cent of jobs will be paid less than the Living Wage in 2023 (amounting to 5.1 million jobs in total).
